Barbara Welch is a director at Mace. Joining the Mace graduate scheme in 1997, she spent her first seven years delivering a variety of consultancy and construction management projects across the UK. This breadth of experience was fully utilised when she moved overseas in late 2004, initially based in Asia and then Russia. Originally training as a civil engineer, Barbara has worked in many areas of the construction industry, delivering projects for clients in retail, residential, commercial offices, education, rail, regeneration and leisure sectors. An executive programme at INSEAD Business School in France helped to hone her business skills which she developed further when establishing new businesses for Mace’s operations in Asia.

Judges cited her outstanding career as an inspiration for all women in engineering, property and construction professions.
