Beth has worked at the intersection of the public and private sector for all of her career, working in the built environment and infrastructure from a wide variety of perspectives, with the aim of trying to improve people’s lives, and has recently become the Chief Executive of East West Rail Co, the company established to deliver a new rail line between Oxford and Cambridge.
Prior to joining EWR, Beth’s career was has spanned four types of roles: contracting, client roles, banking and politics. Most recently Beth was the Managing Director for the Regional South business of Balfour Beatty UK Construction Services, accountable for delivering a wide array of civil engineering and building work including highways, flood defence, defence, scientific and residential buildings.
The bulk of her career has been spent working in several client organisations, including Landsec, as Head of Development for the London portfolio and Head of Development Management, HS2 Ltd for 5 years as Commercial Director, and Transport for London in a number of different roles during her 9 years there. Beth began her career working on Capitol Hill in Washington for the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the House of Representatives, before moving on to 8 years in project finance banking with Credit Suisse and Société Générale in New York and London.
Beth is a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Beth lives in Wimbledon with her husband and children. When carving out a bit of ‘me time’, Beth runs (when not injured), does Pilates (to avoid being injured) and paddleboards (when warm enough). She loves the theatre and amazing dining experiences and has spent the last couple of years reading everything from feminist biographies to dystopian literature.
